Pastor John, thank you. As you began your Sermon, I reflected on the connection between the variety of laws we follow to "do the right thing" and the necessity of faith to steady us when we encounter that which either doesn't make sense or can't be explained. I also thought of the analogy of childhood experiences that were paused by the repeated question, "But why?" (Because Jesus says so...)" We just have to believe and trust...

Sorry for being so late to reply to this, Janis!

I find the necessity of faith/trust to be both frustrating and freeing. On the one hand, I wish I could just have all the answers tied up with a neat bow. But on the other hand, since the One who is over it all has promised to be gracious to me, I don't have to worry about it and can busy myself with other, more useful things.

I like the analogy of childhood you brought up. Children don't know the work it takes to keep the household together and the sorts of dangers their parents shield them from, so they are free to do the work that's in front of…
